The optional Admin Object Ownership feature allows ownership to be assigned to a variety of administrative objects, such as Categories (Forms), Lists, Interface Preferences, Personalities, etc. When an object is owned, only the owning entity (Group, Department, Personality or Employee) is permitted to submit changes to it.
When the feature is installed, a form section similar to this one will be present in the ownable objects' configuration forms:
Choose the Owner Type, click the iconic reload button, then choose the desired owner.
Ownership of parent objects applies to children in the following ways:
- Forms (Categories) - Form (category) ownership applies to the form's Event Hooks, Functional Restrictions, Child Subforms and Field Definitions (and the Field Access Restrictions, Drill Down Links and Intelligent Lists associated with the field definitions).
Important |
When using the Category Edit page to specify ownership for a form, it is best to change only the ownership settings during the edit, and to avoid using the reload button(s) during edits that don't need to change ownership. Reloading this form causes the signature controlled operation settings to revert back to their values at the beginning of the edit. |
- Components and Subcomponents - Component ownership applies to the component's Subcomponents. Ownership may also be specified on individual Subcomponents. If a subcomponent and its parent component both have ownership specified, the user must be an owner of both to submit changes to the subcomponent. Note that entities implemented as Components and Subcomponents (Display Parts, Full Text Search Indexes and Jobs, etc.) obey these same rules.
- Lists - List ownership applies to the list's items.
- Departments - Department ownership applies to the Department Employee records. Only the owner of the Department can add or remove Employees from the Department.
- Personalities - Personality ownership applies to the Personality Employee (a.k.a. Employee Personality) records. Only the owner of the Personality can add or remove Employees from the Personality.
- Employees - Employee ownership applies to the Employee's Proxy Signature Permissions.
When a new object is created by copying an old object that serves as a template (e.g. forms and display parts), ownership settings from the template object are not copied to the new object. This is to provide non-owning administrators the flexibility to copy and use new objects without needing the assistance of other administrators (who would need to transfer ownership if the ownership settings were copied).
