User Contents

The Groups pages, accessed from the User Management section of the Manage page, allow groups to be added, edited, and deleted. Groups contain zero or more departments. Most companies only have a single Group, and AssurX recommends that you begin CATSWeb operations with only one Group.

A second Group might be appropriate for a company with a high degree of vertical integration, where a common form is used throughout the company for issues, but the processes in different areas of the company are very different. For example, a company might have a machine shop that makes parts for a production group that assembles and tests electronic instrumentation. In both areas of the company, a common form is used for tracking failed part issues, and in CATSWeb its category might be Part. If all users were in a single Group, the pull-down selections that are appropriate in the machine shop (e.g. process selections of lathing, milling, deburring, etc.) might not be appropriate for the instrument production area (which would prefer process selections like soldering, burn-in, test, etc.). Making separate Groups and Departments for the machine shop and instrument production group allows both areas to share the same form (category), while having pull-down selections that are specifically for each Group (via Selected Lists).

In the Group list, click on the Group to edit or delete it. Use the Add button to add a new Group. A Group cannot be deleted if it has departments assigned to it. The Group name must be 20 characters or less in length. You can choose to limit who can modify the Group by specifying ownership.
