Compatibility

CATSWeb is compatible with any web browser that supports the HTML v4.01 specification and above. This includes browsers such as:

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer
  • Firefox
  • Google Chrome
  • Opera

Later versions of a browser will provide bug fixes, better security, support for enhanced HTML (such as HTML5) and provide better CSS and Javascript support.

Cookies

CATSWeb requires that cookies be enabled in your browser. This is the default setting for most browsers. A great deal of misinformation has circulated about what cookies can and can't do, causing many people to disable their usage. The following are popular myths and are not true:

  • Web sites can collect personal information from your computer if cookies are enabled.
  • Cookies are like a virus and can do harm to a computer.
  • If cookies are enabled, anonymous browsing is impossible. Web sites will know who you are when you enter them.
  • Cookies are large files that will rapidly eat up your remaining disk space.

In reality, cookies are small files containing information that web sites create on your computer and use to improve your browsing experience. A cookie created by a web site can only be read by that site. Other sites have no means of accessing the information in the cookie.

CATSWeb will store two pieces of information in a cookie on your machine: your login name and your current session ID. This information requires less than 50 bytes.

JavaScript

CATSWeb may require that javascript be enabled in your browser. Some features and components may require javascript to function properly.
